HP Art of Fashion Event Recap

Last night Style Coalition hosted the Art of Fashion for the viewing party of Project Runway presented by HP, at the Style Coalition Lounge. Guests were challenged to create a look inspired by Project Runway’s episode centered around mid-century art at The Guggenheim, all the looks created by the guests were very inspiring (see all the photos here). HP and Intel have always been about innovation so this was a perfect way for guests to show how innovative their designs were that night. The best design won the latest HP ENVY X2, which was the featured PC used in the Project Runway episode. It is not just a powerful notebook but its great design was created to meet people’s technology needs in any situation necessary, utilizing itself not only as a notebook, but also as a tablet. The HP/Intel Challenge provides the designers a way to create their own patterns, using the HP Touch smart Desktop.

H&M debuted its first ever catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week yesterday at Musée Rodin. Sitting front row were Ashley Olsen, Chloe Moretz, Emma Roberts, Carine Roitfeld among other fabulous guests. Created by H&M’s design team under supervision of Ann-Sofie Johansson featuring 25 looks, all key items for ladies and styled by George Cortina. The Autumn 2013 Collection features dramatic silhouettes with more decorative pieces. The collection will be available in around 200 stores worldwide, as well as online, from September 5, 2013. After the catwalk show, guests celebrated with performances by the French artist Owlle, as well as 2 Many DJ’s. The collection looked fabulous and the space was amazing, wish I was there!

The mood of the collection was reflected in the specially constructed venue in the garden of Musée Rodin, decorated like a dream apartment full of the party elegance of ’70s Paris. The catwalk show, which combined tailored shapes with delicate dresses to create a tomboy spirit, gave the audience the chance to see H&M’s fashion in line with the international fashion schedule.

Loving the collection and so happy it will be available for sale at H&M! Can’t wait till September! Check out the recap after the jump…

Berlin Fashion Week Wraps Up With Voices From Farther Afield

Friday, July 20th, 2012

Mercedes-Benz Berlin Fashion Week wrapped up this weekend in the German capital. Reporter Hili Perlson reports from its final day.

For many designers based outside of Germany, Berlin fashion week is a popular gateway to an international catwalk debut, and the final day was a showcase of emerging young talents from across Europe.

The day kicked off with Romanian menswear label Twenty (2) Too, where deconstruction was the order of the day. Designer Mihai Dan Zarug showed denim jackets sewn onto trenchcoats. Multicolor stripes added accents to the otherwise pastel palette and corresponded with the beaded African masks.

The eco-conscious label Romanian label PATZAIKIN and its designer, Olah Gyaras, drew inspiration from the beauty of the Danube Delta and incorporated elements of the traditional garb worn there, like straw hats, loose-fitting pants, and boxy tops. The label has also designed the official uniforms for the Romanian athletes at the London Olympics; its founder, Ivan Patzaikin, was once an Olympic canoe sprinting champion.

Istanbul Next presented three women’s designers. Pop art met Ottoman references in Gunseli Turkay’s designs, which stood out with lavish bright prints on flowing maxi dresses and blouses. Zeynep Erdogan, a household name in Turkey, showed a collection (pictured) that combined shoulder-exposing geometric cutouts underplayed with nude tulles, voluminous minidresses, and fine detail work on buttons. Burce Bekrek showed a minimalist collection in white and nude, integrating cutouts and transparency into the silhouettes.

The Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana closed the fashion week with a show by three emerging designers from Italy. Design duo Leitmotif stole the show, however, with its menswear collection Dream Day. If its allusions to a dream day were rather literal—beaches, blue sky, and ice cream appeared in the colorful prints on hoodies, shorts, shirts, and cropped denim jackets—the collection was nevertheless self-assured.

From the fashion cupboard perfect plumes – Telegraph

Like Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren and Oscar de la Renta, Frankie Graddon is loving feathers this season.

From the fashion cupboard: perfect plumes
BY Frankie Graddon | 27 February 2012

Spotted keeping the fash-pack warm during the shows and paraded on the spring/summer 2012 catwalks, this week we in the Fashion Cupboard are taking cue from our chirpy friends and loving the feathered look.

Shop: feathers

Seen on the spring/summer catwalks at Meadham Kirchhoff,Cheap Gucci handbags, Louis Vuitton, and Oscar de la Renta to name but a few, feathers flew their way into pole position as trim-of-the-season. Meadham showed a powder puff trapeze jacket in pastel blue marabou whilst Louis Vuitton placed candy coloured feathers atop lace skirts for an airy light collection.

Leading this season’s art deco trend, Ralph Lauren looked to the the Roaring Twenties, trimming drop-waisted dresses and elegant silky evening scarves with ostrich feathers to romantic effect. We can expect to see a lot more flapper-esque feathers in the upcoming Baz Luhrmann remake of the 1974 film, The Great Gatsby. Cue leading lady Carey Mulligan in marabou boas and frou frou gowns – oh the decadence, we can hardly wait.

Not only stylish but also practical, feathers have been out in force at the recent London and Milan fashion weeks. Bat For Lashes’ singer Natasha Khan was spotted in a cutsey pink marabou collar, whilst top model Shu Pei has been displaying some serious plumage on the Italian streets in a grey feathered coat. Find similar on the high street with Biba for House of Fraser’s cropped marabou jacket, £115, or splash out on Miu Miu’s metallic-flecked feather coat, £2,380 at net-a-porter.com .

Tipped to be big news for next season (see Jasper Conran and Gucci’s autumn/winter collections) we declare we are positively in a flap about feathers.

Dying to be thin? Fashion PRs are left to pick up the pieces after Ralph Lauren’s mistake

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Dying to be thin? Fashion PRs are left to pick up the pieces after Ralph Lauren’s mistake…

The size of models on the catwalk is one issue which continues to spark controversy in the industry. Alongside the expenses scandal, the credit crunch and global warming, it is a topic which continues to dominate media headlines. There are two sides of the fence of this contentious debate: one, the side that believes fashion is about dreams and illusion and that clothes look better on thin models; two, the alternate view that using skinny, emaciated models sends out a dangerous health message and that the clothes alienate those with a figure larger than a size zero. The former view can be epitomised by Karl Lagerfeld – German fashion designer of Chanel – who controversially spoke out and said: “No one wants to see curvy women. You’ve got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly.” On the other end of the scale, some designers are happy to go against the grain; one such name is Mark Fast, a designer who decided to use larger sized models in his 2009 show at London Fashion Week. In contrast to the words of Mister Lagerfeld, Mark praises the plus sized models which he describes as “jewels”.With all this in mind, the outcry and public backlash against one of the biggest fashion label’s decision to digitally doctor an image of an already-skinny model seems justified… In a bizarre move to make the size eight model appear even thinner in one of its advertising campaigns, Ralph Lauren decided to digitally alter the size of the models hips to make her waist appear narrower than her head. The result was a beyond emaciated girl with a body with dimensions which were anatomically impossible. Understandably the model in question – Filippa Hamilton – was outraged, and has since claimed that she has been fired for being ‘too fat’, despite a six year working relationship with the company.Although Ralph Lauren has since issued an apology for the ‘poor imagery’, stating that: “we have addressed the problem and going forward will take every precaution to ensure that the calibre of our artwork represents our brand appropriately”, there is the sense that the damage has been done. Although it has not yet reached a crisis management situation, it is the job of Fashion PR representatives to salvage and manage the reputation of the brand. The PR consultancy looking after Ralph Lauren would be wise to think about what effective public relations it can use to re-engage with the public and those who buy the clothes. There is the definite sense that Ralph Lauren has let down both Filippa Hamilton and fans of the clothing range and only good media relations combined with a responsible corporate policy can help set the record straight…
